Marsalis Music was founded in 2002 when saxophonist Branford Marsalis recognized the need to form a label where a diverse array of musicians could document their best efforts free of the commercial pressures that have grown more and more prevalent in the music industry.

Marsalis Brasilianos Tour this Fall
Between October 2 and November 9, Branford will be touring the United States as the featured soloist with Philarmonia Brasileira in Marsalis Brasilianos.  The tour commemorates the 50th anniversary of the death of composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, and will feature his music.  Philarmonia Brasileira was founded in 1994 by conductor Gil Jardim, and has been acknowledged for its efforts to preserve the music of Villa-Lobos, which have included a reconstruction of the composer's 1924 Paris debut concert.  Branford included a Villa-Lobos composition on his 1986 debut classical recording, Romances for Saxophone.
